Request a ConsultOngoing Care That Fits Your Day
Once a plan is in place, staying consistent with follow-up visits matters. Regular check-ins make it possible to notice what is helping, catch problems early, and adjust thoughtfully. For people with full workdays, travel to and from appointments can make that consistency hard to keep.
Telehealth removes the drive. A follow-up can happen from a private office, a quiet room at home, or a parked car, as long as you are physically in Michigan and can speak freely. Please never join a visit while driving.
Many people find it helpful to set a recurring time for follow-ups, such as the same weekday every few weeks, so appointments become part of the routine rather than something to squeeze in. If your schedule changes, let the office know so visits can be adjusted.
It Starts With an Evaluation
Ongoing care begins with a 60-minute psychiatric evaluation. Even if you already take a psychiatric medication prescribed elsewhere, the evaluation gives Claudia the context to make thoughtful recommendations: your symptoms, history, sleep, physical health, stress, past treatment, and goals.
Medication is one possible tool, never a requirement. Every decision is made together based on your symptoms, goals, and comfort level.
Bringing a list of your current medications and any recent lab results helps the evaluation go smoothly.
What a Follow-Up Visit Covers
Medication management follow-up visits are typically 15-20 minutes. They are focused conversations. Claudia will ask how your symptoms have changed since the last visit, how you are sleeping, how daily life and work are going, and whether anything new has come up in your health or circumstances.
Side effects are part of every conversation. You should never feel you have to put up with something quietly. Changes are made only after a discussion, and you should talk with your prescriber before changing or stopping any medication.
Jotting down a few notes between visits helps a short appointment cover what matters most.
If something important changes between visits, contact the office rather than waiting for the next appointment.
Lifestyle Factors Alongside Medication
Medication is only one part of how you feel. Through Functional & Integrative Psychiatry, follow-up visits also look at sleep, stress, nutrition, movement, and daily rhythm. A rough stretch of sleep or a demanding month at work can shift symptoms as much as anything else, and those factors deserve attention.
Relevant laboratory findings may be considered when appropriate, and existing results from your primary care provider are often a helpful starting point. Small, realistic changes are reviewed at each visit and adjusted as needed.
For example, if work has been especially demanding, a follow-up might spend part of the time on sleep and stress rather than focusing only on medication. If a recent change has helped, that is worth noting too. The goal is a plan that reflects how your life is actually going.
Coordinating Your Care
With your permission, Claudia can coordinate with your primary care provider and any therapist you see, so everyone works from the same understanding. When therapy would help, she provides referrals to trusted therapists and specialists. GeneSight testing is also available; you can ask about GeneSight at an appointment.
Coordination is especially helpful when more than one provider prescribes or monitors your health.
