Adult ADHD Evaluation
Many adults reach their thirties, forties, or later before they first wonder whether ADHD explains patterns they have carried for years. Fall Bloom Mental Health offers adult ADHD evaluation by secure telehealth across Michigan, with limited in-person appointments at the Clinton office.
Request a ConsultWhy ADHD Questions Surface in Adulthood
Adult life has a way of removing the structure that once held things together. School had schedules, deadlines, and adults keeping track. Work, parenting, and running a household demand that you build that structure yourself, and that is often when long-standing difficulties with focus, organization, follow-through, or restlessness become impossible to work around.
Sometimes the question arrives after a child is evaluated and a parent recognizes themselves in the description. Sometimes it comes from a partner, a performance review, or simple exhaustion from compensating. However it arrives, the question deserves a careful answer rather than a quick one.
What an Adult Evaluation Reviews
An adult ADHD evaluation is a 60-minute conversation that looks backward as well as at the present. Because ADHD begins in childhood, the evaluation asks about early history: school experiences, report cards or teacher comments if you remember them, and how you managed demands growing up.
It also reviews your current demands and how you meet them, along with sleep, anxiety, mood, stress, and physical health. These matter because several other conditions can look like ADHD from the inside, and because ADHD often exists alongside them. The evaluation considers other possible explanations before settling on any conclusion.
If you have old school records or past evaluations, bring them. If you do not, that is common and completely fine. Your own history, told carefully, is the foundation.
It can also help to think ahead about specific examples: projects that stall at the final step, appointments that slip, paperwork that piles up, or a mind that wanders in meetings. Concrete examples make the conversation far more useful than general impressions.
No Single Questionnaire Decides It
Screening questionnaires can be useful, but no checklist, app, or online quiz can diagnose ADHD, and no diagnosis is promised before an evaluation takes place. A careful evaluation weighs your history, your current life, and other explanations together.
That thoroughness protects you. It means a plan is built on an accurate understanding, whether the answer turns out to be ADHD, something else, or a combination.
If the evaluation points away from ADHD, that answer is useful too. It redirects attention toward what is actually driving the difficulty, so the plan addresses the real problem rather than the assumed one.
What Happens After
If the evaluation supports an ADHD diagnosis, you talk through options together. Medication management may be one part of a plan, but medication is one possible tool, never a requirement. Decisions are made together based on your symptoms, goals, and comfort level.
Through Functional & Integrative Psychiatry, care also looks at sleep, nutrition, movement, stress, and laboratory findings when appropriate, because daily habits and physical health shape attention more than most people expect. When therapy or coaching-style skill building with another provider would help, Claudia provides referrals to trusted therapists and specialists.
Claudia Fall, PMHNP-BC, holds certification in Psychiatry Redefined, Functional & Integrative Medicine for ADHD, and is currently pursuing advanced fellowship training in Functional Psychiatry.
Follow-up visits, typically 15 to 20 minutes, keep the plan current as your life and demands change. Care continues at a pace you help set.

Common Questions
Can ADHD be diagnosed for the first time in adulthood?
Yes. ADHD begins in childhood, but many adults were never evaluated. An adult evaluation reviews early history alongside current demands, sleep, mood, anxiety, and physical health before reaching any conclusion.
Will I be prescribed medication at the evaluation?
No decision is made before the evaluation, and medication is never a requirement. If the evaluation supports a diagnosis, options are discussed together based on your symptoms, goals, and comfort level.
What should I bring to an adult ADHD evaluation?
Bring old school records or past evaluations if you have them, plus a list of current medications and health conditions. If you have none of these, that is fine. Your own careful history is the foundation.
